MatchWorks and COGG Revamp Croquet Club

For a building that is nearly 90 years old, the Geelong Croquet Club Clubrooms have a new lease on life thanks to MatchWorks and the City of Greater Geelong.
MatchWorks ‘Croquet is Underway’ Work for the Dole project has seen over 60 job seekers take on various refurbishment tasks over the last few months to transform the deteriorating building.
“This project has been a very successful one for MatchWorks. If you see the difference between how the building looked before compared to now, it is a dramatic change and a real credit to those who were involved,” said Julie Graham, MatchWorks General Manager.
“Work for the Dole is designed to assist not for profit groups as well as provide skills and knowledge to the participants. There are some really great projects currently in Geelong and we are constantly looking for new opportunities and activities.”
The Croquet is Underway project was jointly funded by the Federal Government Work for the Dole project and the City of Greater Geelong’s Community Grants program.
“Without the support of MatchWorks and the City of Greater Geelong, this would never have been possible for the club. It is fantastic that these projects are available to not for profit groups such as the Croquet Club because we just don’t have the resources to do it on our own,” said Eastern Park Croquet Club President, Jenny Leesing.
Geelong is host to the 2007 Victorian Country Regional Croquet Championships next week with nine regions in competition over the three days.
