Holiday at the coast is gold

A group of Karingal participants escaped the freezing cold of Victoria to head on a five-day holiday to the Gold Coast in July. The 15 participants were joined by four Karingal staff on their journey north, including Ross McDonald from Ocean Grove Respite.

Karingal participant loses battle

Ian Scarlett, who participated at Karingal for more than 50 years, succumbed to his terminal illness on May 29 after a valiant, year-long battle. Many members of the Karingal community attended Ian's funeral on June 3 ranging from the CEO to Ian's client friends.

Merger talks for local charities

MatchWorks got behind NAIDOC Week this year with a number of staff and clients participating in the Melbourne march. NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The horticulture team at Konnections hosted staff and participants from disability service provider Kankarma in June. Joined by Elaine Hall-Foote from the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council, Konnections’ participants were eager to show off both the retail and wholesale horticulture areas. After the tour and morning tea everyone enjoyed a plant potting exercise.

KABLE bike riding group take to the track

We called ourselves the “SKID MARKS!” We took on lots of challenges! Our first challenge would be to pick up the trailer, check all the bikes and tie them down before we could go anywhere. The second challenge was to increase our fitness levels so we could tackle the rides ahead. It wasn’t long before the Skid Marks were riding up to 10-15km each day.

Former MatchWorks jobseeker Michael Ashman and Employment Consultant Patrice Serong were finalists in the prestigious National Employment Awards for Excellence this month with Michael winning the Achiever of the Year Award. The National Employment Awards for Excellence are hosted by the National Employment Services Association (NESA) and are in their seventh year. Michael was presented with his award by The Hon Kate Ellis MP, Minister for Employment Participation in Brisbane.
