Support rockets for NDIS

14 November 2011

Over the past two months there has been a surge in support for the Every Australian Counts Campaign lobbying for a National Disability Insurance Scheme. There are now over 75,000 people signed up as supporters of the campaign.

More than 900 Disabili-Tea morning teas were held around the nation to promote the campaign to 40,000 guests. Karingal joined in and hosted three very well attended Disabili-Teas in Geelong, Warrnambool and Frankston. Guests enjoyed hearing news about the campaign and listening to the stories of people with disability and carers for whom the proposed NDIS will make an enormous difference.

Karingal promoted the campaign at the Deafness and Hearing Loss Forum and at Brain Injury Awareness Week forums. Over 400 supporter postcards were signed during Brain Injury Awareness Week and forwarded to the national campaign office in Sydney.

Jacqui Pierce, Karingal NDIS co-ordinator’s team of reliable and enthusiastic volunteers have helped to spread the word at information tables in Geelong shopping centres and at the recent Special Olympics held in Geelong September 24th and 25th.

Between now and Christmas campaign organisers aim to have 100,000 supporters signed up.  Karingal will continue to build awareness and support for the campaign at upcoming regional events.
