Students celebrate terrific milestone

15 February 2011

The EdLinks graduation ceremony was another great success this year with more than 230 people attending the November 26 event.

The Karingal EdLinks program focuses on the development and maintenance of initial and basic literacy and numeracy skills for people with disabilities.

Program Co-ordinator Ron McGlynn said there were 92 students enrolled in the program last year and more than 100 ready to commence this year, making it the largest program of its type in Australia.

“The awards evening has become an annual Karingal calendar event which everyone looks forward to with much anticipation,” Ron said.

“This year a large number of young adult students attended showing a growing interest and support for the program by this age group.”

The ceremony aims to recognise the hard work and achievements made by the many students in the program throughout the year, as well as the help of volunteers, Karingal staff and the support provided by the Gordon TAFE.

“Next year will be extra special as it will be the 25th annual awards evening, representing a quarter of a century of continual program operation,” Ron said.

“To knowledge, no other further education program within the disability sector has ever achieved such a milestone.”
