Shoe in for awareness
16 August 2010
Walking Home 2010 is aiming to build on the success of the 2009 inaugural event.
MatchWorks is a major sponsor again this year and is hoping to encourage not only the community but staff to take part.
Last year MatchWorks Regional Manager, Mark Davison donned his walking shoes for the Salvation Army trek, walking for five days and 190 kilometres from Warrnambool to Geelong.Karingal Manager Jill Reid also walked for part of the distance.
This year’s event, to be held on November 13, will take a slightly different format and will now be a one-day public event.
Every member of the community is invited to join the walk and in the process raise awareness and understanding of homelessness.
Participants can choose from four distances, depending on fitness level and time availability.
The walk will start in Queenscliff and end in Geelong’s Johnstone Park later that day where there will be free live entertainment from 4pm-7pm.
Anyone who would like to take part in the walk either individually or as part of a team, or participate in a game of soccer in the park after the walk, please visit www.walkinghome.org.au for more information.
