New invention

Recently showcased on the popular ABC television program The New Inventors, NVDA is now available.

Non Visual Desktop Access (NVDA) is a free software tool that operates as a synthetic-speech screen reader. It is particularly useful for people with a vision impairment.

The software tool will ‘voice’ whatever document is on your screen – email, web page, word or excel.

NVDA can be downloaded to a computer or a USB drive. Simply visit the http://www.nvda-project.org/ site for information and to download.

Success in new contract

MatchWorks has received promising early results in the Federal Government’s Job Services Australia evaluations since it won the new tender late last year.

MatchWorks General Manager Michael Wasley said while the measuring period had only been short since the new contract started in July 2009, it was encouraging that MatchWorks’ many sites across Geelong, Melbourne and Regional Victoria have already achieved above average ratings, including in some new operating areas.

“Our goal going forward is to now maintain and improve all site ratings to ensure our performance and service delivery is consistently high across all regions”.

Brain injury awareness

- Brain Injury Awareness Week is August 16 to 22 and the theme this year is “falls related traumatic brain injury”.

Karingal branch, ARCsupport will hold a service information expo on August 16, planned to be a one-stop shop where people can come and get information about all things brain injury.
