New MatchWorks site opens with artistic chic on show

09 December 2009

Flemington’s new MatchWorks site was officially opened on November 9, along with a fantastic art gallery to exhibit the works of Karingal artists.

MatchWorks was awarded an additional six sites as part of the Federal Government Job Services Australia open tender process earlier this year.

The new sites include Melton, Preston, Colac, Epping, Bendigo and Warrnambool, equating to a 45 per cent increase in growth for the organisation, including the appointment of 50 new staff.

MatchWorks now has a total of 19 sites, including the new one in Flemington, which is replacing its former Moonee Ponds site.

To celebrate, artists currently using the services of another branch of Karingal, Mental Health Support, displayed an eclectic array of art in a dedicated gallery area inside the building, with the ribbon cut by State Minister for Education and Member for Melbourne Bronwyn Pike.

Federal Minister for Finance and Deregulation, Lindsay Tanner also showed his support for the project via a video message.

MatchWorks General Manager Michael Wasley said the opening was a wonderful achievement for MatchWorks.

“Not only is it great we now have 19 sites, but we are also proud to have been able to provide this space for Karingal artists to display their work,” he said.
