New ‘garden’ village opens in Geelong
14 November 2011
Expansive native parkland and plenty of green space for garden walks and relaxation are key features at Geelong’s newest retirement village, Barwarre Gardens. Stage one of the development will commence late November.
Set in the peaceful semi-rural surrounds of Marshall, Barwarre Gardens is conveniently situated between the Surfcoast Hwy and Barwon Heads Rd providing easy access to popular beach destinations Torquay, Ocean Grove and Barwon Heads. There is also easy access to Geelong and Melbourne via the Marshall train station a short stroll away from the village.
Barwarre Gardens is close to a major supermarket, shopping strip and Belmont Shopping Centre and for those who love their golf, the village is a mere swing away from Barwon Valley Golf Course.
“There will be many options for social activities,” says Karingal Chief Executive Officer Daryl Starkey, who said Karingal is proud to be behind the development.
“The planned village community centre has large windows with spectacular garden views and natural light in winter. There will also be a cosy open fireplace where you can sit and enjoy a leisurely lunch or read a book from the library.”
Other facilities will include a billiard room, bar, craft room, gym, barbecue and deck area. “As well as the range of facilities provided at Barwarre Gardens, Karingal will offer additional support for residents through Continuing Care services,” said Daryl said.
“Continuing Care aims to assist each resident to remain living in their own unit for as long as they are able, facilitate access to extra care if and when required, support couples to remain living together and support residents to enjoy ongoing independence to live full and active lives.”
Barwarre Gardens Retirement Village offers a variety of housing options that include north facing, two and three bedroom units with single or double garages and individual courtyards.
