Karingal ready for exciting 2010
12 February 2010
Another year has passed with significant achievements made by Karingal, and 2010 promises to be no different.
Many of the ventures we will be starting and completing this year have been on the drawing board as long-term goals for our organisation and it will be very rewarding for all involved to see them either commence or be completed this year.
The recent announcement of MatchWorks’ successful tender to the Federal Government to provide Disability Employment Services in Epping, Preston, Melton, Bendigo and an outreach service to Bannockburn is just one of our early achievements for the year so far. This is in addition to our existing 13 sites across Geelong and Melbourne, which we were able to retain as part of the tender process.
The DES and Disability Management Service aim to assist and support clients with disabilities, illness or injury overcome barriers with a view to find and sustain employment.
Also on the cards for this year is the commencement of construction of Karingal’s state-of-the-art retirement village at Marshall, Barwarre Gardens.
The initial building stage will include some civil works and building of the first stage of the project.
Karingal Community Living’s Amunsden Street project will also be completed later this year. This project received funding from the Department of Human Services and the Karingal Board last year and will see the development of a residence for young people with high-care needs, many of whom have or are currently living in residential aged-care facilities.
There is much excitement about this project and all the prospective residents are very much looking forward to moving into their new home.
We plan to build some additional accommodation places at two of our existing facilities- two places at Ocean Grove and two at McAllister in St. Albans Park.
These are just a few of the exciting ventures Karingal has on the cards this year. I look forward to seeing these achieved in 2010 and beyond.
