Karingal invests in building and service delivery
14 November 2011
The theme of this year’s annual report is “Connecting with Our Communities” and it was presented at Karingal’s Annual General Meeting on November 17.
Over the past few years, the growth of this organisation has been significant and it will again feature at this year’s AGM.
While our annual report largely focuses on the financial year that has passed, and the many great partnerships that we have forged over the time – I want to highlight our plans for the future and our impressive capital works program of around $16.8 million, including $15 million on building developments, going forward.
Karingal is embarking on the development of a retirement village at Marshall, called Barwarre Gardens. We will invest $5.3 million into that project, which is expected to get underway shortly, and hope to attract residents from near and far who want to live in this beautiful semi-rural area.
We also have plans of investing $3 million into the proposed East Geelong Community Centre which will be a fully inclusive space including co-located services, a flexible multi-use meeting area, activity and function rooms, café, computer training rooms, exhibition space, indoor-outdoor areas and garden.
A significant investment of $2.4 million will also be put into the extended Accommodation Pathways Plan with a seven-bed respite service to be built in Melaluka Road, Leopold. A two-bedroom unit adjacent to the McAllister shared supported accommodation residence at Whittington will also be constructed.
A new Karingal corporate head office will be developed at the former Leisurelink site in Reynolds Road, Belmont in the next couple of years. Subject to the City of Greater Geelong rezoning the land to mixed use, the land will be acquired at a cost of $1.7 million. This is expected to be a two-year development.
For Kommercial we have earmarked $800,000 for factory redevelopment.
We look forward to seeing these many projects come to fruition over the next few years as we continue to invest in new infrastructure and service delivery.
