Face of Karingal recognised at AGM
11 November 2010
The 58th Annual General Meeting saw the Karingal Employee and Achiever of the Year recognised through a new recognition program.
This fits well with this year’s annual report, which has been themed, the Faces of Karingal’.
The report not only reviews the 2009/10 financial year, but tells the stories of the many people associated with the organisation, including staff who each day provide
a range of Karingal services such as personal support and care, employment services and therapy to management and administration, hospitality services, training and
landcare.
It also tells the stories of participants, their many achievements and journeys.
Karingal achieved many goals in 2009/10 including the formation of the Disability Advisory Group (KDAG), comprising consumer and Board representation.
A new accommodation development in Amunsden Street has begun to take shape over the past 12 months.
The Belmont development will cater for young people with disabilities and is on track for completion by the end of 2010.
Other highlights have included the retention and expansion of MatchWorks sites, making it the largest Job Services Australia provider in Victoria, as well as the formation of Karingal Community Living’s newest branch – Konnections.
Karingal have also run many successful events, including Karnivale and KarnivART as well as the long-standing Karingal Big Night Out.
A new and highly successful event for this year was the Presentation Ball, which saw the dreams of a group of people with disabilities come true when the Zonta Club
of Geelong, in partnership with Karingal, hosted the event in May.
A total of 15 couples were presented to Geelong’s Mayor in front of almost 350 guests including family and friends.
Financially Karingal has experienced another year of solid growth, moving forward to
achieving its long-term goal of financial sustainability with annual revenue of $64 million.
