Employee volunteers help Jirrahlinga
14 November 2011
Following a devastating fire that destroyed a koala shelter at Jirrahlinga Wildlife Sanctuary, 12 Alcoa employees volunteered a day of their time to assist in the rebuilding and creation of the grounds within the sanctuary.
In conjunction with Jirrahlinga staff, the volunteers worked on tidying up and planting donated trees into a garden that will be used as a memorial for the koalas killed in the fire. Others painted an enclosure that is home to deer, horses and other farm animals.
Eventually this area will be open to the public and used to educate school students, people with disadvantages and others from the community.
“Those who benefitted the most were the Jirrahlinga staff, with a huge boost to their morale after the fire and the loss of their animals” said Terhee Gordon, Director of Jirrahlinga.
