According to Black Saturday Bushfire survivor Cathy Ferguson, just knowing that she had not been forgotten and that people care, was enough to get her through.

Karingal to recognise 60th year in 2012

Next year Karingal will celebrate its 60th year and the organisation is planning a number of activities to commemorate the occasion throughout the year.
A new history book about the organisation is now being researched and written for release in 2012.
However, Karingal is looking for memorabilia, photos and other historic items and information which may help to form the book. Also, if you have ideas on how Karingal should celebrate this very special occasion, we’d like to hear from you.

Psychedelic Plasma is a band made up of Karingal Futures for Young Adults participants and they have been performing at various events held across the organisation in recent months.
The band rehearses once a week at Pan Rehearsal and Recording Studios and is working on a mixture of covers and original songs.
Band members were very happy to play at Karnivale and have also played at the last Central disco night and most recently at the BacLinks Workplace Big Day Out.

Program helps Adriana volunteer

Work Choices is a program that operates within Karingal Participate and is supporting many young adults to explore options through their Personal Care Packages to engage in volunteer work, work experience and ultimately employment within the Geelong community.
The program has proved of great benefit to one participant, Adriana Josipovic.

Top catch on fishing expedition

Karingal Adventure Based Learning Experience (KABLE) participants Ben Hood and Sinisa Graljuk showed off one of the fabulous fish they caught during their latest fishing expedition.
The group goes out each year on the Queenscliff fishing charter boat. The group of seven participants, two staff and one volunteer caught an incredible 52 flathead and one rather large gummy shark.

Karingal staff member wins state award for care

Karingal Project Officer Lee Considine has been awarded the coveted Client Services Award in the Victorian Disability Sector Awards, presented by the Department of Human Services in Melbourne in April.
Lee originally began his career as a primary school teacher, before moving into the disability support sector, specialising in youth, community inclusion and preparation for employment.
He has overseen a range of Karingal activities, including the Getting the Life You Want program, which assists

Charity Work rewarding for Karingal participants

Karingal participants are making everything from baby’s bonnets, to jumpers and toys in aid of five different charities as part of their day programs at

The program started three years ago when the ladies got together to enjoy arts and crafts – but over the last 12 months, their creations including knitting and their skills in sorting second hand clothes have become helpful for various charitable organisations.

Every Australian Counts rally draws a crowd

The Geelong Waterfront turned red on February 10 when more than 1000 people wearing red t-shirts attended a rally to campaign for a National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) for all Australians.

Productivity Commission recommends NDIS

The Productivity Commission released its draft report into the National Disability Insurance Scheme at the end of February, recommending the Federal Government consider introducing the scheme.
Karingal has been hosting forums about the Productivity Commission’s report throughout Geelong, the south west region and Mornington to explain to people how vital it is to respond to the report.

Karingal Foundation to come to fruition
