NDIS update

Karingal is playing an active role in campaigning for a National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). As part of this, ARCsupport manager, Jacqui Pierce, has expanded her role and will now co-ordinate Karingal’s participation in the promotion of the NDIS.

The support Karingal has received over the last few weeks has been nothing short of remarkable. The recent media coverage of Karingal and the remuneration of one of our supported employees who works for Kommercial, has been very difficult for all involved. Kommercial is a division of Karingal and an Australian Disability Enterprise. Since that coverage Karingal has worked hard to communicate with all stakeholders to ensure everyone is aware of the full story.

Rice Village residents keen to raise cash

The residents of Rice Village at Marshall have joined forces to set up an appeal to raise funds for a specialised massage/exercise table for young adults with disabilities who have moved out of nursing homes to become residents of Karingal.

Karingal Adventure Based Learning Experience (KABLE) participants had their winter woollies out for a trip to the snow earlier this month. KABLE offers outdoor experiences with an emphasis on personal development, confidence, and team work.

Rotary presents top award for effort

Emily Sinclair was the recipient of this year’s Rotary Club of Highton Pride of Workmanship award for 2010. The award is presented annually to a Kommercial supported employee who has been nominated by their peers as showing pride in their work. Kommercial Service Co-ordinator Ryan Gibbons said Emily was nominated for her commitment to work and her willingness to assist fellow workmates.

Brother and sister together at last

For the first time in over ten years, brother and sister Craig and Nicole Jones are living together in Karingal supported accommodation in Belmont. Until recently they lived in separate residential aged care facilities.

My Own Place DVD launched

A guide to safe and smart living for people with disabilities was launched by Karingal recently. The DVD guide titled My Own Place: a guide to safe and smart living for people with a disability aims to provide helpful information to people living independently. Karingal Board Chairman David McArthur said the DVD was a great initiative by My Own Place, a project established by Karingal in 2006 to assist people with disabilities in the Geelong region to find suitable, long-term private accom

Roberto helps the Cats

Life has never been quite so exciting for Roberto Natoli now that he gets down on the ground each week with his one and only favourite footy team – the Cats. Roberto is part of Karingal’s 'Getting The Life You Want' project, which sees the dedicated Cat’s supporter at the club each week during training.
